One-time NFL Star Antonio Brown Files Innocent Response in Attempted Murder Trial

Ex- National Football League player Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to confront an murder attempt allegation stemming from a shooting that took place in May, as his attorney filing a not guilty response on his behalf.

Jail documents in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular figures in the NFL, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being apprehended in Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has earlier submitted a documented not guilty declaration to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday early for a bond hearing, Eiglarsh said.

According to his arrest order, Brown is charged of taking a handgun from a security guard after a public figure fighting event in May and shooting a couple of bullets at a man he had clashed with before. The reported individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one of the bullets touched his neck.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The steps he was compelled to take were exclusively in self-protection against the alleged person’s violent behavior. Brown was assaulted that night and responded within his rightful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not immediately detained because initially police did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a detailed statement about the event to officers and pointed out Brown as the perpetrator, the report says.

Based on his social media updates, Brown had been staying in Dubai for multiple months. In a message after the confrontation, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “jumped by several people who tried to take my possessions and bring personal harm to me.”

A level two attempted murder accusation in the state of Florida imposes a maximum 15-year prison penalty and up to a $10,000 penalty in the case of a guilty verdict.

Brown has dealt with multiple judicial problems over the years. He earlier had been charged of physical attack of a vehicle driver, several family violence accusations, inability to pay family payments and additional incidents.

During a 2021 game with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown stripped off his uniform, shoulder pads and gloves and exited the field, leading to his termination by the Buccaneers and effectively ending his football tenure.

Brown, who had twelve years in the league, was an elite receiver who passed the bulk of his tenure with Pittsburgh. For his career, Brown had over 900 grabs for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one gains, the 28th greatest of history. He was a seven-time prestigious choice.
