I cannot rely on a three-year period at United - Amorim

the United manager

The Manchester United coach - seen receiving consolation following May's Europa League final defeat - says he is pleased by the investor's long-term backing but stressed that the future is unpredictable in football.

United's manager Ruben Amorim feels it's significant Sir Jim Ratcliffe went public with his extended perspective - but states nothing is guaranteed about the future in the sport, let alone three years.

During a discussion with a leading newspaper last week, Ratcliffe mentioned it may need the head coach three years to create substantial change at the Theatre of Dreams.

Emerging in an era when Amorim's future has been under scrutiny after a prolonged run of poor performances, the words contributed to reducing certain present tensions.

But, speaking before the hundredth encounter with old rivals the Merseyside club at their home ground, the manager underscored that the future is hard to predict in the beautiful game.

"It's truly positive to receive that message but he communicates to me all the time, occasionally through communication after games - but you know, I realize and the co-owner recognizes, that football is not like that," he commented.

"The crucial element is the upcoming match. Regardless of investors, you cannot dictate the future in the sport."

Top executive the club executive has conceded it has required far longer for Amorim to adjust to the English top flight after his transfer from his former club during the winter than anybody anticipated.

The Red Devils have secured 10 victories in 34 top-flight fixtures under the 40-year-old. They are yet to win back-to-back league wins and have not ended a matchday during this campaign higher than ninth.

The worrying figures are stretching belief in the manager among the Red Devils supporters approaching a stretch of fixtures their team has struggled during for the last couple of years.

Amorim said he isn't experiencing the uncertainty inside the club at their training facility and is insistent nothing compares to the pressure he puts on his players - and to some extent, he would prefer the co-owner to avoid attempting to bring a sense of calm because he worries the effect it might produce on the players.

"It's not only something people discuss, I sense it every day," he stated. "It's really good to listen to it because it assists our supporters to understand the leadership understand it will require a period.

"Yet concurrently, I don't like it because it creates an impression that we own time to solve problems. I don't wish for that sense in our club.

"The stress I place on the players or on myself is significantly greater [compared to external sources]. In football, particularly at major teams, you need to prove your worth each weekend."
