16-year-old Swiss national a young man from Switzerland is one of those unaccounted for.

The families of young people lost after a devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an painful wait for official news and requesting information about their loved ones online.

The inferno engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified footage show the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and hurt another over a hundred.
