A Much-Awaited James Bond Game First Light Faces a Setback, Scheduled for Release in Late Spring 2026.
The Development Studio
The release of the long-awaited James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, has been pushed back to 27 May 2026.
Originally slated for a 27 March release, the title will now debut approximately 60 days past its original date.
A Long-Awaited Comeback for 007
This project represents the first video game starring the famous British spy following 2012's 007 Legends, concluding a extended hiatus for the character in the gaming world.
"The game is entirely complete from start to finish," explained studio IO Interactive. "But, we are taking this extra time to add more refinement and make certain it meets the demanding benchmarks of our players."
Development Details and Narrative Elements
The game is being developed alongside Delphi Interactive, a studio that is developing another upcoming title.
Patrick Gibson, recognized from Dexter: Original Sin, will star as a young James Bond in what is described as a fresh take on the beginnings.
The narrative details Bond as he is recruited into MI6 and earns his legendary 00 status, delivering a self-contained tale unconnected to the films or books.
Notable Talent and Mechanics Glimpses
Boosting the star power, American musician Lenny Kravitz has been revealed as the game's central foe.
Released gameplay trailers have demonstrated shared mechanics with IO Interactive's hit Hitman franchise, while also highlighting the classic gadgets and spectacular moments synonymous with Bond.
That said, comments from viewers on these trailers expressed issues over graphical fidelity, pointing out frame rate drops and prominent motion blur.
An Ambitious Undertaking
IO Interactive has called 007 First Light its "biggest project to date."
"We believe this prepares 007 First Light up for long-term success," the studio stated. "Thank you for the understanding and steadfast backing we've received."
